New YouGov Poll – Tory Lead at 12%
Sky News are reporting a new YouGov poll tonight for tomorrow’s Sunday Times:
Conservative 44% (up 1%)
Labour 32% (no change)
Lib Dem 14% (down 2%)
This poll flies in the face of all recent polls which have shown a significant jump in Lib Dem support to around 20%.
Senior Labour Advisor Defects to Conservatives
The first of what I expect to be a series of defections to the Conservatives has been announced tonight. I was given advance notice of this a few days ago by someone close to David Cameron’s office but in view of some past reported defections not happening, I kept it to myself.
David Freud is known as an expert on welfare reform and has written several papers for the Government. He is well thought of on both sides of the House. I understand that he is also close to Frank Field, the Labour MP for Birkenhead. He will take the Conservative Whip and join the Conservative front bench in the Lords when he takes his seat. This will be a major blow to Gordon Brown, as Freud will now sever all contacts with the Government.
I am told that there are some more “significant” defections to come.
UPDATE: Fraser Nelson of the Spectator has this article.
New ComRes Poll – Tories 16% ahead as Lib Dems jump
There is a new ComRes poll reported tonight in the Independent on Sunday tomorrow showing a 16% Conservative lead:
Conservative 41% (down 2%)
Labour 25% (down 3%)
Lib Dem 22% (up 6%)
This confirms the surge for the Lib Dems over three polls now. It also has Labour hitting the kind of scores that they sunk to last summer when speculation was rife about Gordon Brown’s future.
Political Betting and UK Polling Report have also covered this poll.
Coming Soon
I will soon be conducting an interview with Reading West Conservative candidate Alok Sharma and posting the results here on my blog. I thought it would be interesting to profile the man who is likely to succeed Martin Salter as MP for Reading West and Alok has kindly agreed to this.
If you would like to pose a question for Alok to answer please add it to the comments section below. I will then review the suggested questions and decide which ones I will put to him. Here is your chance to influence the interview.
Friday the 13th
Last night being Friday 13th I went to see the film “Friday the 13th”. It is a remake of the previous Friday the 13th films. It is set in a remote part of (un-named) southern state of the USA and involves a psychotic killer (Jason) who brutally murders a series of young attractive back-packers who stray into his territory. It is largely faithful to the original movies but due to the advances in graphics and technology is far more brutal and frightening.
If you like to be riveted to your seat and scared witless you will enjoy this movie. If you are at all of a nervous disposition, this is not one for you.
Jason is back!
