Nailing Labour’s Lies – 2

labour1There seems to be a view in Labour HQ these days that if you tell a lie often enough people will believe it. That view appears to have reached Reading where ex- Labour Councillor (and recent Labour candidate) Helen Hathaway has made the statement in the Reading Post that Reading West Conservative PPC Alok Sharma “lives in Wokingham”. This is completely untrue.

Alok lives with his wife and family in Reading Borough, where he has resided for many years now. And for the avoidance of any further doubt, Alok grew up in the Reading area and went to school here as well.

That is in sharp contrast to the newly selected Labour PPC for Reading west who is a Councillor in the London Borough of Walthamstow, and the Lib Dem PPC who lives in Oxfordshire and is a Councillor there.

  1. McLabour never let the truth get in the way of a headline.

11 months and counting, tick-tock Jock.

  2. and even if he did live in the borough of Wokingham, which i believe he does not, he might still live in one of the two Reading-named constituencies, namely Reading East, which includes three wards in the Wokingham local authority. But as we are talking about parliamentary candidates here then what has the local authority got to do with it? Surely Ms Hathaway cannot be confusing parliamentary representation with local authority boundaries? Just as her Reading Labour Group colleagues constantly do? Hein? Sort yourself out Helen and get your facts right, I remember you when you were a half-decent councillor, what a pity.

    • Jane – having visited Alok’s house several times I can attest that he lives in the Borough of Reading, but you are quite right that it is not the main issue. For example a candidate could live some way out into West Berkshire and still live in the Reading West constituency.

  3. It doesn’t matter to me if a candidate lives outside the constituency, but they should be near it. Or they wont know whats going on there.

It does seem odd that the LD and L have selected Cllrs from far away, passing over Cllrs who live in the constituency.
