An Excellent April Fool With a Serious Message
The Conservatives today ran a spoof campaign with a very serious message behind it. The “Department of Government Waste” goes to the heart of Gordon Brown’s spending obsession without the controls to ensure that our money is not wasted.

New ICM Poll – Tory Lead Increases to 9%
There is a new ICM poll reported in tomorrow’s Guardian which shows an increase in the Conservative lead to 9%; the second increase in a row in an ICM poll:
Conservative 38% (down 1%)
Labour 29% (down 2%)
Lib Dem 23% (up 4%)
The changes I have shown are against the last ICM poll in the News of the World, whereas the table below shows the change compared with last month’s ICM Guardian poll:
New TNS-BMRB Poll – Tory Lead Cut to 5%
There is a new poll from new pollster TNS-BMRB published today. This poll reverses a big jump in the Conservative lead last month:
Conservative 38% (down 1%)
Labour 33% (up 2%)
Lib Dem 19% (no change)
The polls are showing a mixed message at the moment but overall suggest a gradual widening of the Conservative lead. Tonight there is believed to be an ICM poll reported and it will be interesting to see what they show.
New Harris Poll – Tories Increase Lead to 10%
There is a new Harris poll reported in today’s Metro which shows the Conservatives gaining an increased 10% lead over Labour. The party ratings are:
Conservative 37% (up 2%)
Labour 27% (down 1%)
Lib Dem 19% (up 2%)
The latest figures would give the Conservatives 322 seats in Parliament, Labour 240 and the Liberal Democrats 56, with 14 going to nationalist and minority parties.
Harris polled 1,133 people nationwide online between March 23 and 29.
New Angus Reid Poll – Change of Methodology
There was a new poll on the Political Betting site last night from Canadian pollster Angus Reid which has caused some confusion. Figures were published and then changed due to some change in the weighting methodology. Both sets of figures are shown below:
Conservative 39/37
Labour 27/28
Lib Dem 23/22
Changing the figures after publication and citing weighting will not do a lot for Angus Reid’s credibility as a newcomer to UK polling. Due to the confusion I have not shown changes from their last poll but either set of results suggests some narrowing of the Conservative lead.
