Reading Borough Local Election Results 2011

Yesterday the people of Reading voted. The Council began as “no overall control” with a Conservative / Lib Dem coalition running things. After the election results have been counted the Council remains as “no overall control”. It remains to be seem whether Labour and the Greens will team up to form an administration or whether Labour will seek to run Reading as a minority administration with tacit Green support.

The full election results are:

The Council is therefore now 22 Labour; 16 Conservative; 5 Lib Dem; 2 Green; 1 Independent.

  2. Good God, where did that all that Labour vote in Thames creep up from!! On the other hand, Labour must be thinking the same in Southcote in terms of the Tory vote. Both respective heartlands as I understand. Correct me if I am wrong, Anon.

  3. The council tax freeze is really a red herring, the Tories made up for that money by charging more for services or charging for things that were free before and a £1.5 million cut in the education budget.

    • Alex – this is not the case. Had we not frozen Council Tax we would not have gained a government grant which was about £1.2m (if I remember correctly). So an extra £1.2m would have to have been cut or found from charges. What you ignore is the significant extra funds that were put into frontline services for social care, voluntary sector etc etc.
