New YouGov Poll – Labour Lead Cut to 8%
There is a new YouGov poll for tomorrow’s Sun newspaper which shows Labour’s lead being cut back to 8% with the Lib Dems nudging ahead of UKIP once again:
Conservative 34% (up 2%)
Labour 42% (down 2%)
Lib Dem 8% (up 1%)
UKIP 7% (down 1%)
All major pollsters seem to be pointing at a reducing Labour lead and this is the first time in a while that YouGov have not shown Labour with a double digit lead.
Changes shown are compared to the last YouGov poll I reported on 21 May.

I think its likely that this poll is a blip as much as anything, considering that the coalition has done very little of note, especially regarding policies that would gain the support of voters. Perhaps the recent Lib Dem rebellion against Beecroft’s no-fault dismissal plans have gained them support as they finally seem to be showing some backbone within the coalition. Apart from that, it’s hard to see where any gains for the two coalition parties are coming from.

It will be interesting to se if this is the start of a downward trend for Labour or merely a small adjustment.
We need a by-election in a Conservative Marginal to test the waters and ascertain the true state of the respective parties.
