New YouGov Poll – Lib Dems Drop to 14%

There is a new YouGov poll reported tonight for tomorrow’s Sun newspaper, showing the Conservatives holding a solid lead over Labour:

            Conservative              43% (no change)

            Labour                       35% (up 1%)

                                          Lib Dem                     14% (down 1%)

What is more noteworthy is that the Lib Dems seems to be suffering disproportionately from the coalition government’s decisions. This is surprising as I would have expected the two parties to have benefitted or suffered equally. Perhaps it is the case that some of the more left-leaning Lib Dems are unhappy with their party’s support for the very necessary repair to the public finances after Labour came close to wrecking our economy.

All changes are within the margin of error and are shown compared to the last daily YouGov poll I reported on 14 July.

  1. It’s not surprising at all. David Laws and now Danny Aleaxander are the ones who have been giving out Gideon’s bad news, and over 70% of LD voters identify themselves as Left Liberal to some degree. With a government this right wing, I imagine the 14% on the polls is the remnant of the optimists among them who think they they can still have an influence on a regressive and economically illiterate government. Libdems have never been any good at economics. They don’t read Marx.

  2. “They don’t read Marx.”
What Jonny! You mean steal from the hard working people to give to the work shy! As for “Libdems have never been any good at economics” From what I am reading it seems that they do understand the meaning of ” there is no money left”!
Do you? You should read Liam Byrne’s lips and Alistair Darling’s lips when he said cuts needed will be “deeper” than the ones undertaken by Margaret Thatcher. Well something to that effect. As for Karl Marx, Utopia is a good description, you only have to see what happened to the good old USSR… reverting back to Darwin. Human nature I call it! We have had enough of social engineering from your lot.

  3. Jazz, you have obviously not read Capital, either. It’s a bit of a slog, and requires concentration, but is well worth it. Come back when you’ve finished. It took me two weeks.

  4. “requires concentration” well that’s one I shan’t put on my holiday list then! I mean if it took you 2 weeks, I am looking at 6 months! I got quite hooked on the Plan though…
