New Populus Poll – Labour Lead Cut to 2%

There is a new Populus telephone poll in today’s Times which shows the Conservatives further narrowing Labour’s lead to just 2%:

            Conservative              37% (up 1%)

            Labour                       39% (down 1%)

                                                           Lib Dem                      11% (no change)

As PoliticalBetting.com points out, Populus was one of the most accurate pollsters at last year’s General Election, alongside ICM who continue to show Labour and the Conservatives neck and neck. Labour should be worried at their inability to open up much of a lead at a time when the Government is having to take some unpopular decisions. There is also a clear downward trend in Labour’s lead and vote share in most recent polls. It will be interesting to see if this is maintained now that the AV referendum and local elections are over.
