Reading East MP Calls for Independent Enquiry into Jimmy Savile and BBC Conduct

I am indebted to Guido Fawkes who has blogged the fact that Rob Wilson MP has written to the Chairman of the BBC Trust Lord Patten to call for an independent investigation into the reports that Sir Jimmy Savile abused young girls on BBC premises. He also calls for the report to identify whether any of the BBC management of the day were aware of the allegations and covered them up.

I understand that Guido may have more tomorrow and if so I will update this posting.

  1. It is always a saddening thing when a person one has considered to be worthy of admiration has such a serious character fault alleged against them. For his charitable work, especially for Stoke Mandeville Hospital and The Disabled, he was made a Knight of the Realm by The Queen, and a Papal Knight by The Pope.

Jimmy Saville is dead and thus has nothing to fear from Human Justice. He has had to face a far greater Judge, our Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent God from whom our innermost secrets are not hidden. Accordingly the truth MUST be investigated and lessons learned to prevent any recurrence of such sexual assaults and even, it is alleged, rape of minors to whom the BBC owed a Duty of Care.

It is of course sad that Jimmy Saville’s family, friends and fans must suffer as a result of such an investigation but if what he has been accused of doing is true then surely the victims are owed the investigation not only of the late Jimmy Saville’s alleged sexual offenses but the cover-up of these which is also alleged.

Reading MP Rob Wilson is right to take this matter up with Lord Patten.
