New YouGov Poll – Post Conference Labour Lead is Just 4%

There is a new YouGov poll in today’s Sun newspaper showing Labour’s lead after all the party conference hubbub has died down is just 4%:

                   Conservative                35% (up 1%)

                   Labour                          39% (up 2%)

                                                     Lib Dem                          9% (no change)

                                                     UKIP                             10% (down 3%)

The polls jump around a lot during the party conference season and it was therefore not worth taking much notice of them until we were back to normal politics. The poll above is compared with the last YouGov poll I reported on 22 Aug and suggests a small boost for both the Conservatives and Labour at the expense of UKIP.

  1. Mr Willis. Why not comment on the Populus poll which gives Labour a 7 points lead. Why not comment on the fact that the Tories need a 3 per cent lead over Labour to just finish level with them in parliamentary seats. The Tories are out in 2015, and deserve to be. The only people they represent are the rich and the bankers.

    • Sean – I comment on the polls which I see and which I chose to comment on! YouGov and ICM have earned a good reputation amongst those who follow opinion polls. Your assumption about what rating the Conservatives need is based on a uniform swing, which there wont be! For Labour to be only 4-7% ahead at this stage of this Parliament indicates the depth of failure of Ed Miliband to convince the British people.

Conservatives represent all people across the UK. I might as well say that Labour only represent Trades Unions!

  2. And YouGov (so beloved of Richard) had a poll on the 9th October which gives Labour a 6 point lead at 38 to 32. Even more worryingly for the Tories is UKIP holding steady at 13%. Little surprise he hasn’t bothered to comment on this one either.

    • Phil – it is amusing that you are now crowing about a 6% Labour lead from YouGov!! A year or so ago Labour leads were often double that but as we get nearer the General Election Labour’s average lead has been slipping steadily. I suspect that before the end of this year we will see the first poll with the Conservatives ahead. Roll on 2015! 🙂
